4 Common Cosmetic Labeling Mistakes You Should Avoid

In the cosmetic business, looks matter a lot. Most people tend to overlook beauty products that don’t look attractive or appealing enough. When you want your cosmetic items to stand out from the crowd of beauty products on the shelves, be creative while designing your products, including their labels.

To make the designing of cosmetic products’ labels easy for you, we have mentioned some common mistakes that you must avoid to shine.

Being unaware of when to use an ingredient list and when not

If your cosmetic product doesn’t make any claim such as acne reducer, there isn’t a need to include an ingredient list. However, it’s suggested to include the list of ingredients because most folks prefer to read what a particular product contains. In case, your product makes a cosmetic claim, make sure you strictly follow the cosmetic labeling guidelines set by the FDA.

Not bolding the net weight

Surely, you want to highlight your brand name and product’s specialty, but in an attempt to promote your cosmetics, don’t forget to bold the net weight. Though it doesn’t seem a big deal, in truth, it is. The net weight of the particular cosmetic product should be mentioned at the bottom third of the principal display panel and bolded.

Using incorrect font size

Cosmetic labels are already difficult to read, thanks to the long list of ingredients. Therefore, make sure that you use the correct font size, as directed by the FDA. Take note of the printed lowercase o and uppercase L on the customized labels to be sure that everything is according to the FDA’s type size guidelines.

Omitting contact information

Is the company’s contact information on the label necessary? Absolutely. Your customized cosmetic labels should include essential information like contact details. Most cosmetic companies don’t bother to include their details but you must not walk on their path. If your company is listed in city directories or telephone directory, mention your contact information on the label. You may exclude the street address but do add the manufacturer, the name of distributor, city, state, followed by zip code.
